SLC Summer pt 2 – Hike to Brighton Lakes

It’s been too long since I’ve updated my SLC Summer project!!! I’ve done a lot of random little things, not all of which I’ve captured in photos. Yesterday’s adventure was worth documenting, so I’ve decided to share!
I’ve never been much of a hiker, but I can convinced to leave my comfortable air-conditioned house with the promise of an easy hike with a great view. Yesterday one of my friends decided to surprise me with a long, strenuous hike under false pretenses. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
At Brighton resort, up Big Cottonwood canyon there are beautiful trails lined with wildflowers. The most popular destination for hikers are the Brighton lakes; Mary, Martha, and Catherine. If you continue on a little ways past Lake Catherine, you can follow the trail to Sunset Peak.
My friend Sam and I followed the Sunset Peak trail, and before arriving at the actual Sunset Peak we took a little detour off of Sunset Pass to a less visited area with a great view of the lakes. At an altitude of over 11,000 feet, we were both very content.
I would definitely recommend this hike to anyone looking for a beautiful view. Roundtrip this hike is a little over 6 miles roundtrip and took us about 5 hours (but that was my fault because I’m slow and out of shape lol.) It’s moderately difficult but is so worth the view!!!
